We had the privilege to create a brand new identity for The Laboratory for the Economics of Africa’s Past (LEAP) – affiliated to the Department of Economics at Stellenbosch University, South Africa.
It is dedicated to the quantitative study of African economic history and brings together scholars and students interested in understanding and explaining the long-term economic development of Africa’s diverse societies.
The end result of the logo was a colourful and strong layout portraying the diversity of South Africa, and its past. The letter ‘L’ is an ancient map of the Cape Colony; the ‘E’ consists out of Egyptian hieroglyphs; the ‘A’ consists out of Stata Code (a statistical software package used by researchers); and the ‘P’ is colourful African patterns.
The website is a one page responsive WordPress information site, with the ability to add multiple projects as the papers are being written over the years.
For the launch-night of the website, we’ve also designed a big pull up banner to spread the word about LEAP.
